The goal of microenterprise development is to create long-term solutions to poverty.  In this brochure I wrote for ChildFund International, see how initiatives like village banking, microcredit, and income generating activities are changing the playing field for impoverished people worldwide.

Here are two articles I wrote for ChildWorld magazine.  The first concerns sponsored children who took their vision for a better future to the UN.  In the second article, a couple decides virtual visits aren’t enough–and travels to Bolivia to meet their sponsored child.

I wrote fundraising letters to individuals and corporations on behalf of the Robert and Mary Anderson Charitable Organization, a small non-profit that provides rice, clothing, and computers, as well as medical assistance and educational scholarships to needy individuals and organizations in Liberia.  I also submitted applications that resulted in a “Point of Light” recognition for the organization and a YWCA of Greater Richmond “Outstanding Woman” award for the founder.  Please click on image to view most recent letter.

Every day, every hour, every minute, children face crisis situations.  I wrote about a humanitarian organization’s response to the needs of children around the world in this 2007 Annual Report.  Please click on image to view sample pages.

In Summer 2008, I taught a creative writing workshop to fourth and fifth grade students at the Peter Paul Development Center.  The outreach and community center serves children from an inner-city Richmond community that is one of the ten poorest in the nation.  The stories and artwork created in her workshop were collected into a journal for the children and their families.  Please click on image to view sample pages from the journal.
