Sandra Shelley is a freelance writer and editor in Richmond, Virginia. Her experience includes writing articles for local and national publications, copywriting for businesses and non-profits, grantwriting, historical research, blogging, and editing.
She is a writer for Virginia Living and Richmond Magazine. She has served on the staffs of two magazines, Adweek and Virginia Medical, and has also written for Bride’s, Virginia Business, the Richmond Times Dispatch, and others.
As a freelance copywriter for the Bergman Group, she wrote the articles for the biannual VCU Pauley Heart Center publication, The Beat, for eight years. Other clients include Kosmo Machine, BetterMed, Marts & Lundy, Beth Sholom Lifecare Community, Sandler Training, author James K. Glassman, and The Richmond Group USA.
She currently serves as a grant and marketing writer for Campbell County Educational Foundation. Her work for other non-profit and business clients includes annual reports, blogs, press releases, brochures, emails, histories, website copy, fundraising letters, newsletter articles, award nominations, grant research and writing, and direct mail campaigns. These clients include Yellow Umbrella, Friends of Hollywood Cemetery, and Motleys Asset Disposition Group.
She was a longtime copywriter for ChildFund International (formerly Christian Children’s Fund), where her work included writing annual reports, articles for ChildWorld magazine, and brochures. She also wrote a history and identified critical issues for a Five Year Plan.
She has worked as a substitute teacher and taught a creative writing workshop for children at the Peter Paul Development Center. As a member of the marketing committee of the Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School Foundation, she helped write annual reports, postcards, and other marketing materials. She is also a member of James River Writers.
She holds a B.A. in English from Southern Methodist University and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing (Fiction) from Virginia Commonwealth University.
She was born in Toronto, grew up in Houston, and now lives in Richmond.
